   Health Education Resource Collection (HERC)

The Maine Bureau of Health, the Maine Nutrition Network, and the Maine Department of Education work together to fund and coordinate The Health Education Resource Collection (HERC), which is located in the Folger Library at the University of Maine in Orono. Any educator within the state of Maine can borrow materials from HERC. There is no cost for the materials from HERC; however, the person borrowing the materials is responsible for mailing them back via US Mail or UPS. There are hundreds of audio visual and printed resources from which to choose and new resources are added each year.

Maine-ly Nutrition teachers can borrow materials from the Nutritional Health section of HERC. These materials can be used in the classroom; if you find a particular resource to be something you would like to keep in your classroom, it is acceptable to use some of your $100 to purchase a copy. Borrowing from HERC can be a good way to preview resources before purchasing them for your classroom. Policies for borrowing resources and a catalogue of available materials for loan is available online at: http://www.library.umaine.edu/herc/
