Project Description

This project provides nutrition information by mail to the 18,500 older adults who participate in the Maine Senior FarmShare Program.  The Maine Department of Agriculture runs the Maine Senior FarmShare Program, through which Maine farmers provide fresh, locally grown produce to 18,500 low-income seniors.  The MNN partners with the Maine Department of Agriculture, UMaine Extension and DHHS, Office of Elder Services to coordinate the nutrition education mailings, which include taste-tested recipes, featuring fresh fruits and vegetables.

In 2010, MNN will also provide posters promoting fruits and vegetables to farmers providing produce for the Maine Senior FarmShare participants.   The posters can be hung at the farmers’ markets and/or farm stands where the participants shop for produce.
